snow?! the world ends!

I don't know how many of you guys are in the UK and have had the terrible period of snow that im experiencing in the south east, but i just had to comment on the feebleness of brits during any kind of adverse weather conditions.

We have been forecasted snow for the last couple of weeks - you would think that given the time period that we were given in advance we would be prepared........maybe not!

I was doing my usual weekly trip to tesco's on sunday just past and was amazed that instead of a gentle hum of people going about their daily shopping it was the equivalent of a jungle, there were people quite literally running whilst shopping to get to the bread baskets before anyone else!
one woman was argueing with another about the last pint of milk, trying to justify why they both needed it more than the other and the shelves were near on empty in most aisles from panic buyers preparing for the doomed one day of snow that would bring the whole of britain to a complete halt.

At checkout (one of the few that were open due to lack of employees turning up to work, taking one of the few chances they have to legally skive regardless of wether they can actually get to work or not....i mean who is going to go out and prove they can travel or not?!) .... i seriously saw one middle aged woman buy six loaves of bread and god knows how many pints of milk whilst commenting to the bemused cashier that she didnt know when she would get out again because of the snow, the woman no doubt fearing tht we would not get the few inches forecasted but in fact 3 meters of thick heavy snow blocking her doorway for the next few months...

It seems pitiful that a country like England is unable to cope by now with grisly weather conditions, especially with our reputation for our near-on constant rainfall and our famous "british summer". How in hell would coutries that have snow all year round survive if they were to follow the pitful example laid by us...surely they would perish?

In all fairness we did end up with 2-3 inches of snow, which is on its last legs today, at least where i am anyway, but still do we really need to stock up on ten years worth of tins and non-perishables in the improbable event of a nuclear holocaust, a freak tornado or worse still - snow!

Funny how the the UK never experiences a shortage of sun lotion which remains shelved all year round :worried:
