i am using a mac computer other than browser shots website are their any other options for me to test web pages for ie6 and ie7

is there a firefox addon for this

You can use wine or crossover to try and install IE on a mac.

But really you are best to test any website in real world conditions.
So you need a windows pc since the pc renders colour differently than a Mac. Text also looks very different as font smoothing helps viewing on a Mac.

As a Mac-based designer, I have been caught out testing with different browsers but only on a Mac. Then finding the css breaks on the pc (or js, php etc...)

Wine and Crossover can run IE6, but IE7 and IE8 can only be run on windows computers, so you'll have to test in Windows anyways.
