    Default Website Design Comments 9 Nov 2011 @ 14.36

    Hi All,

I am new to this forum and was wondering if you could spare some time to have a look at our new website and let us know what you think. We will take all comments into consideration and would love it if you would share your feelings about this website.

Visually it looks really nice, clean, colourful, exciting but we need to look into more than just beauty in this case so here is my review

You have too much javascript, the site relies on it to be able to navigate it properly and it dominates the coding.

To be honest on first glance I am not sure what it is you do, you have every other element there, I know how to contact you but my question is why ? I say that because your domain name would be perfect for a communications company but I am not sure it work for a web design firm.

you need to check your html for coding errors, on your site there are loads.

lastly going back to the javascript reliability factor, if you turn javascript off of your browser you will see that your menu disappears and the whole site becomes impossible to navigate as there is nothing to click. this means that search engines may have the same issues of not being able to easily spider your site, this is not only bad for customers but also business. Can some of that javascript go into files ?

anyway, thats what I saw, I hope it was not too harsh and wish you the best of luck with it.

Thank you very much for your clear comments about our website. I do understand that there is a rather large amount of JavaScript that I can either cut down or move into external files. It is rather difficult to tell how many people hit the website with JavaScript disabled.

Please can you let me know why you got confused about what blah d blah design ltd has to offer, how would you improve this ?

Once again thank you for your comments.

    Looks good overall. Design suggestions:

Use darker text. Designers love light grey text, because it makes the content appear to fade into the background; readers hate it for the same reason.

Dump your Twitter feed. Your potential customers don't care about your chit-chat, so don't distract them with it. I'd even consider dumping your share/like/follow/facebook stuff. Give customers a simpler presentation with a few important calls to action (e.g. "contact us").

    Code suggestions:

Your page weight is high -- almost 2 Mb. You have lots of javascript for a relatively simple site, and you also have a lot of background images. Your CSS is huge.

You're loading lots of javascript from other websites. This can be convenient, but the DNS lookups make this bad for performance. Strangely, much of your self-hosted javascript is not Gzipped.

Do you really need all this stuff?

I do rather like the twitter feed on the side of the site so will need to have think about that one before removing it. Maybe a size reduction will accommodate both.

Once again thank you for your comments.
