    Default be gentle, i'm a beginner ;o) 25 Jun 2009 @ 16.40

OK, maybe not a beginner (seeing as I do this full time for a large banking corporation), but still learning (as we all should be )

So I have again released an updated design for one of my little side projects. This one may stay for a little while.

    Please be gentle.

I am still working on the lower pages, please do look at them, but keep in mind that I am still tweaking.

Also, I am having some fun with load times, currently ranging from 3 seconds to 0.43 seconds (one load was 18 seconds, but it must have been wrong - right ). If anyone does encounter a long load time, please let me know.

I will proceed to place on my hard hat

First, the header isn't pushed down all the way on my screen. Check out New CSS Sticky Footer - 2009 If your having trouble with the "no-margin" rule I know a few W3C valid CSS hacks to fix that.

You have a few HTML and CSS errors: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos...mewales.com%2F W3C CSS Validator results for http://www.xtremewales.com/ (CSS level 2.1)

As for the design, I like it a lot, but I think the wood-y header is too different from the clean modern design of the content.

the footer doesnt really remind me of Wales....

Your logo should be a red dragon rappelling down a cliff on a skate board balanced on a mountain bike.. now thats extreme

I got a long load time, but it wasn't the website it looked like it was the server having trouble. ...

heres a little tip, dont link to a local copy of jquery, instead use googles jquery:

    Code:
    <!-- Google API jQuery -->
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.js"></script>
It has a number of benefits:

Google has multple datacentres around the world, so it can provide the file a lot quicker than a single server located in 1 place.

If someone has already been to a website they have already downloaded the file and therefore there will be no wait time.

I am going to do this for all my websites from now on (starting with fusion servers)

The idea is to have some differing images so as and when i get round to them the top right and foot images will change to reflect skateboarding, rock climbing, etc.

I was just in the mood for a holiday when I started this, so palm trees kept me motivated. I may change this to rolling valleys in the next day or so if I have time.

Just done a traceroute too, and server response is coming up at sub-seconds, with website taking about 2 seconds to load.

    Anyone?

When i was browsing your site I had firebug open and was looking at the request times for the javascript, sometimes it was 200ms and then it jumped to 2 seconds.. but if it was a coding issue it would be all the time, as its every so often I would say its a server load issue.

also ran a check here Website Speed Test and compared it against google (maybe a little unfair ) and my own website.

On the 2nd time I ran this check your website gave me a 12 second response.

    #
Domain name Size Load Time Average Speed per KB
    1xtremewales.com 8.76 KB 5.45 seconds 0.62 seconds
    2google.com 6.48 KB 0.17 seconds 0.03 seconds
    3domaindiagnosis.com 2.27 KB 0.58 seconds 0.26 seconds

I think more emphasis on the two top right links maybe with a larger RSS icon would make it a little better but this is really good
