How can I change the menu to a horizontal menu?
I've tried applying float:left in the css without success.

Please help

ul.menu, ul.menu ul has width

So the float class has nothing to do with it?

It has, but when the parent ( UL ) has fixed width even floated they can't get on one line. That's why - remove width and add float to LI's
