I have been looking around for a few hours before i signed up! Lots of useful information here.

I have used dreamweaver before and made a website - which didnt go on the internet, but that was more drag and drop into it, from what i have already gathered is a very big no no.

I have started reading books and looking at online tutorials already, but i only decided that i want to learn it seriously a few days ago. I'm also thinking about enrolling on the Home learning course to do Dreamweaver and flash, which will help me for a starting point, then i can build on it for the future.

My time is up in the libary... cant wait till i get the internet back in my new house :( only a few more days hopefully

Thanks.

I wouldn't do any sort of course for dreamweaver as they will only teach you how to use the wysiwyg, you wont learn to code properly.. if your interested in lessons, I give them at a reasonable rate one to one and its not at a set day and time etc.. at the same time, you will pick up how to use dreamweaver properly but in code view

I don't do flash, but im sure you will find someone that does, might save you some cash in the long run.

just send me a private message if your interested

If you are a looking at doing web design as a hobby then there is nothing wrong with using design view. However if you are looking to take things a bit more seriously then you will need to get knee deep in the code you are writing. :)

Anyway, welcome aboard :D

I have been searching and almost everybody says to learn the code before hand, so i guess you guys are right! Maybe I will not do the course, and just learn myself. I have already been doing HTML and Css today, as I got a book from the libary , and picking it up nicely. Seems easy compared to c++, but I'm only on the easy bits I guess!

I have a copy of dreamweaver 8 from a freind, iv been doing my code in there and just looking at it in design view, or would you suggest just using a notepad type thing?

Wow that took ages typing on my iPhone lol .

you have touched on something that that is debatable, you can do it in notepad if you like, its very right to do so, but the debate comes in when it comes to dreamweaver, and which to use... I would say, as long as you are only in code view with dreamweaver, that is the one to use, due to some of the 'already there' stuff that would save time in the long run.. like for example, its really simple to create a new page with your doctype and all your base elements already in there ( <html> <head> <body> etc ) and there are a few buttons in there that you will find useful

so, which to use is down to you, I would start in dreamweaver in code view, but thats just me, others might disagree.

Hi and Welcome to the Cafe.

I use Dreamweaver in code view and just swap back to regular view just to get an idea of what it will look like.

However, Dreamweaver can give you completely different looks to what Firefox or IE can. Plus other major browsers. So I would always recommend that you use DW to learn but like previously stated revert back to code view. Once you have built what you want then save it and browse it in FF or IE. Remember that using a text editor is completely up to you so don't let anyone sway you that one is better than the other. Thats not true provided that you hand code your site.

Only 4 or 5 months ago I didn't know anything about code. Glynn (saltedm8) taught me coding through 1 to 1 lessons on Skype and Teamviewer. My lessons have taught me a great deal.

I haven't finished yet. I'm still building my website but here is my website so far. Kwest Designs remember that this is nowhere near finished and I may be tempted to make adjustments yet... I also used DW CS4 in code view to build that website. So the HTML and CSS are'nt finished yet plus I need to tidy it up some... Also creating Logo's etc etc for the site. Still I have 80% of the images I want.

Anyway nice to have you here. I would also say learn from saltedm8 OK. Its really easy to understand once you get the grasp. He also explains it real well. Before you know it you will be coding your websites with confidence.

Welcome to the Web Design & Development World

:EDIT: I have some IE6 bugs but I will sort them out later on. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. ;)
