I've been doing freelance graphic, webdesign, & hosting work for a few years. I have a couple of clients that pay a monthly maintainence fee. I also host a few blogs (WordPress) and SMF forums, but I really like designing from the ground up and have already learned a few tricks on here. ..Thanks! lots of good info so far. |

Welcome, CW! Nice to have you here. Be sure to post some of your websites in the critique section, it really helps you improve your designing skills. I've never used SMF. Is it good? How is it compared to VB?

Thank you all for the fine welcome. Regrettfully, I have never used VB. SMF is indeed a tough learning curve, hard to customise. I used fantastico for the install due to dialup being the only thing available to me. The one plus about that is the updates (though infrequent) are a breeze. As for my designing skills, I'm not on the same level as you guys I'm sure..I use mostly free templates which I customise. |

Most things out there won't have exactly what I want, but are a good grounding to help me be about 20% along the way to creating what I need. great to have you here, and see you in the forums.

I used SMF for quite a while. It is relatively simple to install for multi-language forums. Although the first Hebrew forum (different fonts and right to left) took some time. Finally found the problem; it was that the installer defined the SQL as Swedish for some unexplainable reason. Here a link to a DEFUNCT Hebrew forum: comp-4u.org - ???? ????
