Thanks. Is out of the packet seo like vbseo better than having a seo expert optimise your board by hand? What are the advantages/disadvantages of both?

If you like I can give you some advice on that, but the real experts are vbseo themselves... all you do is download it and there are lots of posts on their site to help you optimise your settings.

There are lots of settings, but most are explained in the control panel.

You can also have a lok at this:
SEO Template Edits and Relevant Replacements using vBSEO
which gives you some basic updates to vbseo and also gives you some hints on what code you can remove to increase code/content ratio.

I have followed that Briansol's Ultimate Guide to SEO down to a tee now. I hope it will help. Has anyone else used it before?

vbseo is definitely a better one..its gives you more ways to explore your services...
